For the DELL Technologies Forum opening show, our creative studio set out to explore how artificial intelligence interprets emotion when creativity unfolds live on stage.

We transformed AI from a background technology into an active performer, responding to music, rhythm, and space in real time. As AI continues to evolve at high speed, we wanted to test how it reacts outside controlled environments. Instead of feeding it data, we fed it music. During the live opening show, musicians performed an orchestrated composition while AI analyzed sound, rhythm, and emotion. Translating what it detected into real-time visuals on stage.

A live dialogue between human emotion and artificial perception.

We introduced AI to the emotional language of music by feeding it prompts around melody, harmony, and timbre. These elements were translated into emotional color, while instrument detection and emotive frequencies helped the system recognize nuance in the live performance. Every musical shift triggered a visual response, creating a direct dialogue between the musicians on stage and the machine interpreting them.

For this piece, we recomposed a musical track and performed this live on stage by an orchestra. This allowed AI to respond in real time, generating visuals that moved with the music. Stage architecture and timing were key, making the visuals feel like part of the performance rather than simply layered on top.
